Beginning in 1922, the Championnat des Triporteurs was held yearly in mid-November. The first several years, it ran on a point-to-point course, quickly settling for a few years on a course from Courbevoie-Bezons to Pontoise and back to Porte Maillot via Corneilles, Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône and other points.

In 1927, the race course was switched to the 39 km Tour de Paris course which was used up until the war. The race started and finished on the quai Grenelle, outside the Vél' d'Hiv'. Riders completed the tour of the city carrying 65 kg in their cargo trikes, a weight which was increased to 80 kg in 1935, making the race even more challenging. Considering this weight carried, the winning times shown for the course, whether it be the Tour de Paris or the earlier out-and-back races, are quite impressive!

During WWII, the Championnat des Triporteurs continued in some form, as the Championnat des Transports Utilitaires - both tricycles and bicycles with or without trailers were allowed entry. The event was held only between 1941 and 1943 so far as is known currently.
