The first Championnat des Vélos-Taxis (in which trailers, taxis SVP(?) and tandems also took part) occured in 1941, apparently in Nice (rather than Paris). At the finish, the actress Cécile Sorel congratulated the winners. The event was run again in 1942, but nothing more is known after that.

The newspaper couriers of Brussels apparently had their own yearly competition (they are mentioned as having had entrants in the 1936 Critérium des Porteurs de Journaux), but carried their loads on their back instead of on front racks. I'm currently on the hunt for more information on this event. If you've got Belgian cycling magazines from September in the 1930s, please look for articles!

Berlin also had a race for its newspaper couriers (and dispatch - telegraph - couriers as well). Right now all I have are postcards images, no information beyond the pictures and their captions. The 1936 event may well be two different events, or just different rider classes. Without dates, it is impossible to tell.
